Militants take over govt building

SRI NAGAR: Indian security forces have been fighting to recapture a government building from militants since morning, local media reported on Monday.

TV footage showed thick clouds of smoke bellowing from the Entrepreneurship Development Institute complex near town of Pampore.

Unmanned security officials put the numbers of attackers at two and said at least one personnel was injured in the exchange of fire.

According to Indian media reports, the militants were holed up on the sixth and seventh floors of the building.

“The militants fired a few shots in the air and reportedly set fire to a part of the EDI building. Initially the commotion was dismissed as a fire incident by police but a gunfight erupted the moment security forces reached the complex to douse the fire,” The Hindustan Times reported.
